“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
– Thomas Merton
Art is like a forbidden sword; it shall not be touched by anyone who doesn’t believe in living a little more, by anyone who doesn’t desire to explore yet get lost in themselves. Many unseen warriors have been using this sword each day to fight their flaws and negativity. Art has helped a lot of these warriors overcome their deepest fears while doing something they love and enjoy doing.
Art can be found in anything. It is vaguely found in the scars of a human body, in the strokes of a painting, in the pale chirping of a newborn baby bird, in everything we see, in everything we touch, art is everywhere, and we just need to acknowledge it. It is that one thing which can thrive off of anything, all it needs is hope and effort. It can also be described as a palette of life with different colors of the same rainbow, different from each other yet they make a new color every time they are mixed.
“Art and love are the same things: It’s the process of seeing yourself in things that are not you.”
– Chuck Klosterman
The way I see it, art is an escape to me and to a lot of other people as well because it is what we all turn to for solace. People engage themselves in the idea of being an artist to counter and battle their fears, for their redemption. I find the essence of art in a lot of things I enjoy doing just because these things navigated me through many difficult parts of my life, that too more efficiently and palpably.
I believe art makes you find out and discover parts of yourself that you never knew even existed. I see myself in art, I get to know myself better by each going day, in places I adore, in things I am most passionate about. And honestly, sometimes we need to look at ourselves from a different angle to understand our true nature; from the view of art, from the view of things we love. I believe that art is in everything. I appreciate the ability of art to reveal and put forward a person’s thoughts, to create life from something intangible and inanimate. Every piece of art has visual beauty and a very influential emotional power attached to it.
An artist can be found in anybody and everybody; there’s no single person on the face of our Earth who is not fighting a battle within himself or herself. That’s where the art within makes a mark, leaves an imprint that keeps the fire within the artist burning throughout.
I think art is our humanity, it is exactly what makes us human. Animals can’t make art by themselves nor can plants, but we, humans – we make art and find peace in the smallest of things to the biggest of them. We have the power to look at things from different perspectives and that is what makes us more humane.
“The principles of true art is not to portray, but to evoke”
– Jerzy Kosinski
