SUFFERING OF THE HIMALAYAS

SUFFERING OF THE MIGHTY HIMALAYAS

Lush green valleys, serene atmosphere, untamed rivers; whenever we imagine these, a blurry yet perfect image of Himalayas instantly clicks our minds.

Like a crown of the nation, it is one of the youngest formed mountain range which protects us like a shield from external attacks. It is highly associated with religious beliefs, source of medicinal herbs, origin of prominent rivers, home to so many exotic and exclusive species and what not.

But is it the same?

We don’t realize that the Himalayas is suffering by our very own hands that too while we are busy fulfilling our selfish desires. Upon noticing it closely we can see that it is losing its charm and true self with each passing day.

What are the problems that The Himalayas are facing?

Himalayas are present to help us with our needs and it will always provide till we use everything efficiently. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, ‘Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not for every man’s greed.’

It is not a daily effect but when one follows the trends over the years the changes are easily visible. For instance,  change in monsoon patterns, melting of glaciers, change in rainfall patterns ,increase in temperature due to global warming, pollution has caused having devastating effect on the livelihood of local communities as well as keystone species of  that area.

 How we can help ?

There are many organisations working day and night both on international as well as national levels to provide sustainable methods in order to maintain a perfect rhythm between men and environment. World Wide Fund For Nature(WWF), United Nations and many more bodies have come forward to help. Efforts can be made individually as well by cutting off our daily usage of energy, water, resources and teaching our younger generation to follow the suit.

Though Rome wasn’t built in a day but remember,  if everyone does their bit this place can be returned to its older glory in coming years for which our future generations will be forever grateful.

As Barack Obama rightly said “We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.”

We owe this to our mother earth after years of chaos, right?
